RON KOZUMA RE-ELECTED TO LEAD HAWAII TEAMSTERS
Honolulu - Ron Kozuma, President of the Hawaii Teamsters and Allied Workers Union, Local 996, and members of its current Executive Board were re-elected to a second three-year term, the union announced today after ballots were counted and final results confirmed by the League of Women Voters.
"From day one, our platform has been integrity, respect and fairness, and it is gratifying to see from the results of this election that these values resonate strongly with our membership," said President Kozuma. "It is how we conduct ourselves within the union as well as what we expect from employers when we negotiate on our members' behalf.'
A near 4-to-1 majority voted to keep the current administration in office in a two-slate race. In addition to President Kozuma, the other officers re-elected include: Millie Downey = Secretary-Treasurer; Bernard Nunies = Vice-President; Anthony Badayos = Recording-Secretary; and Mel Vendiola, Vidal Ranion and Elena Paongo = Trustees. All are from Oahu except for Badayos, who is from Maui.
The Hawaii Teamsters Local 996 represents more than 6,000 members and negotiates 80 contracts with employers statewide and on Guam. The union's diverse membership covers a range of occupations from hospital workers to warehouse distributors, aircraft fuelers to laundry workers, bakers to truck drivers and movie drivers.
